By definition, marketing is a discipline to design, promote and sell a product tailored to the needs of consumers.
There are many misconceptions about this discipline. “Marketing is selling”, “marketing is there to organize events and to advertise …” and so on and best … besides, how many of us have already been faced with business giving us ”simple” advice to succeed in marketing? This situation is familiar to you?
Marketing is a very specific discipline, where each decision is made in only one interest: to develop the sales of the company while preserving its brand. Every euro invested will meet this objective and give back something - because the time when money flowed like water is gone.
For many, marketing is a science - I quite agree. Usually we study marketing in school, major theories, studies and how to use existing tools to create a strategy, campaigns and maximize return on investment.
Then comes real life and you realize that things do not (always) happen as we were taught … because there is a component that we do not control: the human.
And yes men do not react as the major theories might suggest … and this is where marketing moves from “science” to “art”. It is from this artist in you that will make the difference, which will take you from good to excellent.
Be realistic but be innovative.
The purpose of this blog is to give my personal view on this subject, with 10 years experience in this area, and explain how marketing is done on a daily basis.
Who is this blog addressing? To all the marketers who wish to share their experiences and perspectives and future professionals in marketing who wish to learn more!
